The Jokers Lacrosse Club of Orlando won the U19 and the U13 Division Championships at the annual Grip It & Rip It 7 vs 7 tournament in Clearwater.  Monsters Lacrosse Club won the U9 and U11 Divisions, Team 99 took home the championship for the U15 Division and the PHU Hurricanes won the U17 group. The annual tournament is run by Shooters Lacrosse and is played at the Joe Dimaggio Sports Complex in Clearwater.  In addition to the Jokers and the Monsters Lacrosse Club several other clubs familar to the summer tournament circuit were there as well.   The Tampa Tribe, Beast Lacrosse Club from Naples, New Tampa Chill, and the Sand Sharks all had teams in mutlitple age divisions. The U19 Championship pitted two undefeated high scoring teams against each other.  In a classic “run and gun” 7 on 7 shootout the Jokers out ran the Beast Lacrosse Club by a score of 24-12.  Scoring was fast and furious and at one point Winter Springs High School’s Nick Maddox scored four goals in a run of about one and a half minutes.  Bruce Preeschl and Mike McCallister from Timber Creek and Davis Goodman of Oviedo all scored plenty of goals for the Jokers. Oviedo’s Pete Bial was on fire between the pipes making some huge saves and even recording an assist in the game. Despite some uncooperative weather and a couple of lightning delays the tournament directors, Tom Losier and Dan Wood were determined to get the games in.   At the end of the day they were able to crown champions in all age divisions.  It was a great day with some fast lacrosse. Next summer’s Grip It & Rip It 7 vs. 7 tournament is scheduled for July 12th.  For more info you can visit the TampaLacrosse.com website.
