via press release   JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Junior Mitchell Parker scored three goals and Jacksonville University scored 14 consecutive goals to beat VMI, 14-2, and nab its first Southern Conference win of the season Saturday. The win broke a six-game losing streak. The Dolphins (3-7, 1-3) had fallen behind 2-0 early before sophomore attackShawn Ewert scored as JU had three goals in the final 6:23 of the first period. “We came out with a couple of bad breaks and went down two-nothing and our guys, the way things have been going lately, could have felt pretty bad about themselves but they showed some character and fought back and clawed away one at a time adn we did a great job executing,” JU coach Guy Van Arsdale said. Evan Tyler followed Ewert into the goal and Chase Miller did the same to give the Dolphins a 5-2 lead and seal the game early. Ewert also had three assists on the day. The Dolphins played one of their most solid games of the season taking 14 faceoffs and converting 20 of 22 clear attempts. JU goalie Ben Gleichenhaus had 19 saves on the day as he and Jake Adamsshut the Keydets (2-11, 0-4) out for the final three periods. “I thought we did a great job on ground balls (JU had 27) and offensively we really took care of the ball and shared it well. Two-thirds of our goals were assisted which is a sign we are playing well,” Van Arsdale said. “Defensively, we did a great job taking away their strengths and forcing them to areas and shooting from areas that they necessarily want to do or do best and Ben did his job in the goal.” The Dolphins travel to High Point next week and return home April 23 against Mercer.
