JU looking to climb back to .500 with win JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- After briefly stopping at home, the JU men’s lacrosse team will pack its bags again and hit the road to face Mt. St. Mary’s in a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday in Emmitsburg, Md. JU (2-3) will be looking to climb back to .500 on the first leg of a three-game road swing. The Dolphins will challenge the Mount and Rutgers before traveling to Canisius to open conference play on March 19. Before facing a MAAC opponent, the Dolphins will have to oppose a Mt. St. Mary’s team looking to regain consistency. The Mount (1-2) has already lost to Virginia and Towson but is coming off a victory over MAAC-member Detroit on March 9. Andrew Scalley has accounted for one-third of the Mount’s total offense, scoring 7 of his team’s 21 goals. Seven players in total have multiple goals for the squad. JU will be looking to bounce back from a loss to Robert Morris. That contest marked the only home match in a seven-game stretch for the Dolphins.  But JU’s offense has done well away from the Sunshine State and will face Mt. St. Mary’s with an offensive attack averaging 12.20 goals per game. One of the offense’s best playmakers thus far has been Max Gurowski. The junior attacker has eight goals, which is two more than the closest teammate. Gurowski can also finish, scoring three goals through the first five games. Two of those scoring strikes came against Robert Morris as Gurowski was the only JU player with a multi-goal afternoon. Freshman goalie Peter DeLuca is coming off his two best games of the season. The netminder has played all but 29:36 in starting the first five games and is averaging 13 saves a game. DeLuca won an open competition before the opener and has rewarded the coaches’ decision with 65 saves and a .546 save percentage. DeLuca is coming off a career-best 20 save performance against the Colonials in which RMU fired 51 shots. In his previous game, the first-year goaltender posted 15 saves and allowed just seven goals despite facing 50 shots in a win over Air Force. Another young player has done his best to keep the Dolphins near the top of the overall MAAC standings. Freshman William Vogt is emerging as the Dolphins faceoff ace, winning 45-of-79 for a .570 percentage. Vogt has nearly 75 percent of his team’s faceoff wins this season, allowing the middie to collect a JU leading 21 ground balls. Vogt will face one of his most difficult challenges at Mt. St. Mary when he opposes Ben Trapp. Trapp has won 42-of-63 faceoffs for a .667 winning percentage for the Mount. Vogt will try and beat his counterpart after winning 7-of-14 draws vs. Robert Morris. The veterans have also contributed. Senior Bobby Stockton earned his first start of the season against RMU after scoring 11 goals through his first four games as a reserve. The midfielder still is the team leader in goals and is second in points (12).  Fellow middie Cameron Mann leads JU in points with 13. Mann, Stockton and Donovan Lange will try and continue to fire shots. Lange leads the squad with 30 shots and along with Conor Igoe as one of JU’s two game-winning goals. The Dolphins will try and bombard Mt. St. Mary’s goalie T.C. DiBartolo, who carries a .479 save percentage into the matchup.
