JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JU got scoring from eight different players and scored six times in the second quarter to beat Navy, 13-7, in the Moe’s Southwest Grille Classic men’s lacrosse action at EverBank Field in front of 6,100 fans. Junior attacker T.J. Kenary scored two of his four goals in the second period as the Dolphins (1-1) outscored the Midshipmen 6-1 in the period. He was aided by Cameron Mann, Donovan Lang, Rob Wertz and Quint Miller in the onslaught. Lang ended the day with two goals and the second quarter scores were the goals for the day for the others. Freshman Ari Waffle, who had three goals in last week’s opener against Towson, had a pair for the game and senior Max Gurowski found the net in the third quarter. JU nearly doubled the score on Navy despite being outshot 42-24. JU raced to a 2-0 lead early in the first period when Lang and Waffle started the fun. After a goal by Navy’s Tucker Hull, JU responded with three more and led at the half 8-2. The Dolphins slowed things down in the second half and combined that offense with a tight defense as the teams tied 5-5 for the final two periods. Navy (1-1) pulled to within three at 10-7 before Owen Green, Kenary and Waffle scored the final three goals to shut the door. Defensemen Tanner Gard and Jake Ziegler and midfielder Will Vogt each had three ground balls to lead JU. The win was the first at the school for new coach Guy Van Arsdale who was hired last summer. The Dolphins travel to Duke Sunday. FloridaLacrosseNews.com will have a bunch of pictures up tomorrow from the event!
