via press release   JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville University pushed the focus button in the second half to outscore Old Dominion 10-1 and stay unbeaten in Atlantic Sun Conference play with a 16-6 win over the Monarchs here Sunday. After the teams had methodically battled in the first half, with the Dolphins (9-4, 4-0) taking a 6-5 lead at the break, JU midfielder Ashtyn Hiron got things rolling with 27:51 to play when she scored on an assist from Rachel Aus. Aus and midfielder then were involved in the next two goals with Aus assisting Chapman at 23:39 and the playing role reversal with 21:42 to play. From there, the Dolphins coasted as redshirt senior Taylor McCord scored three of her game-high four goals, junior Danielle Della Rocca, Lillie Miller, Chapman and Aus each scoring before the game ended. Chapman, Hiron, Della Rocca, Miller and Aus each had two goals for the game and defender Erika Brager had three ground balls. JU’s draw control game stymied ODU (9-3, 2-1) as the Dolphins won the draw 16-8. Senior Kelsey Wiglesworth nabbed five draws while Kristin Ridenour had four and Caitlin McMahon three. Goal keeper Kaylyn Kearns held ODU at bay with 11 saves on 22 Monarch shots. “We played a more focused, poised game and were able to capitalize on our shots in the second half,” JU head coach Mindy McCord said. “In the first half we weren’t converting on our shots. We’d get the draw and turn it over but we did have 20 shots and only six goals and in the second half 17 shots and 10 goals.” McCord said ODU was as tough as advertised coming into the game. “They played us really well in the first half and were very competitive with a good game plan,” she said. “They forced us to step up our game but we feel good that we got to a more settled and transition game in the second half.” The Dolphins now hit the road for a pair of games at Central Michigan and Detroit next week.   Box Score And Stats
