JU looking to post a win against A10 member Owls Jacksonville, Fla.- The JU women’s lacrosse will look to regain its early-season form when it hosts Temple under the lights of the Ashley Sports Complex on Wednesday.  The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. as part of a second game of a lacrosse doubleheader with the men’s team taking on Robert Morris in the opener at 3:30 p.m. JU (3-3) will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak against the Atlantic-10 member Owls. Temple comes in 1-2. Its lone victory came against Mt. St. Mary’s with two home losses to Rutgers and UC Davis, respectively. “We’re looking forward to facing another challenging non-conference team,” JU head coach Mindy McCord said. “I think we’re headed in the right direction and we’ll do our best to earn another win on our campus.” The Dolphins are 2-2 at home with both losses coming against nationally ranked opponents. Freshman Morgan Derner enters as JU’s hottest scorer. The attacker is coming off back-to-back hat tricks, including a four-goal effort at Oregon followed by a three-goal output versus No. 11 Vanderbilt in her previous game. Derner’s 11 goals and 13 points lead the team. Through her first six collegiate games, the Lake Mary, Fla. native has four multi-goal contests. Junior Kayleigh Hynes has also been a force on the attacking end. Hynes notched her first multi-goal game for the Dolphins to keep her team close in the Vanderbilt game. Hynes also caused one turnover to cap a solid two-way effort. Middie Chelsea Watts also contributed on both ends of the field. The freshman scored a goal, added an assist and collected four ground balls in her last appearance. Watts has three multi-point games to start her collegiate career. JU will try to prevent Temple from finding an offensive rhythm. Junior defender Jessica Hotchkiss collected a season-high four ground balls against the Commodores and will look to stymie a Temple attack averaging 8.60 goals per game. Temple’s top threat is sophomore Charlotte Swavola. The midfielder paces the Owls with six goals and seven points. Karly Cohen (three goals) and Kelle Pace (three assists) have provided the complementary offense. Swavola and company will be facing a Dolphins goalie coming off her best effort of the young campaign. Sophomore Karli Tobin posted a season-best 11 saves in the Vanderbilt game and earned the National Lacrosse Conference’s “Player of the Week” honors. Tobin allowed just 12 goals on 30 shots faced and forced three unsuccessful free-position shots.  The Dolphins are in the midst of playing eight straight games as the home team. Seven of those matchups are on Jacksonville University’s campus while Saturday’s game against Louisville will be played in Cumming, Ga. with JU officially listed as the home team.
