Saturday, December 7th, at Anderson Elementary School in Tampa there will be the Lacrosse Champ Camp For Cancer which will include State Championship Lacrosse Coaches Chris Spaulding of Lake Highland Prep, Terry Crowley of St. Thomas of Aquinas, and 2 time North Carolina State Champion coach Mark Goldsmith. Originally slated to host just boys the local community was thrilled to find out that Northwestern’s All Time Leading Scorer and 2011 Women’s Tewarraton trophy winner Shannon Smith would be hosting the girls portion of the camp. The camp is being coordinated by the Tampa Bay Lacrosse Academy’s Paul Goldsmith to raise funds and awareness of Ewing’s Sarcoma, a pediatric cancer. Earlier this year Jayden LaSpada, a 12 year old girl from the local community was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma and she is being treated at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. When discussing the idea of a fundraiser, Jayden herself asked that a portion of the funds be shared with All Children’s Hospital due to the quality of care she has received. The outpouring of support has been growing everyday since announcing the camp in August. Ohio Machine and former Notre Dame goaltending great Scott Rodgers recently announced he will be attending. Kelly Gallagher of University of Tampa has joined as well. Several university programs have donated actual game jersey’s to be auctioned as an additional way to raise funds as well. Lastly, there will be a free Coaches Clinic to be held at a local hotel on Friday evening, December 6th. Presentations will be made on topics that include “How To Start a New High School program” to coincide with the new high schools in Hillsborough County that will be starting first year programs. These will be made for both Boys and Girls programs. For information please visit: https://sites.google.com/a/wildcats-lax.org/champcamp/
