Lake Highland and St. Andrew’s Ready to Take On the Nations Top High School Programs This Weekend

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Bob Shriver (Boys Latin) and Andy Hilgartner (McDonogh) have been regular participants at showcase events just as many of the nations high school teams have.  One common element to these events is the blend of high school teams and club teams. Shriver and Hilgartner decided to do something he said many guys had talked about doing but never got off the ground.  They are hosting a showcase event for what they consider the country’s top high school programs and limiting the event to high school teams only. They sought out schools who have had solid traditions in their respective regions.  Culver Academy in Indiana, Regis from Colorado, Lovett from Atlanta, and LHP and Saint Andrews from here in Florida. The showcase will feature teams from eight states including five schools from the MIAA (arguably the top high school lacrosse conference in the nation) and the Maryland Public School State Champion, Hereford. Despite all of the great competition scheduled to participate, Shriver is quick to point out that the purpose of the event is not the declare the top team in the nation, but to give these programs a chance to play one another. Even though both Lake Highland Prep and Saint Andrew’s play out of state competition each year, including Shriver’s Boys Latin team, the likelihood of the Florida State Champion getting a chance to play the Maryland State Champion during the spring season is unlikely.  However, Lake Highland will face off against Hereford on Friday.  They will also be playing Bullis and Georgetown Prep.  St. Andrew’s is scheduled to play D.C. powerhouse Gonzaga on Friday and Syosset and St. Alban’s on Saturday. Other notables playing in the showcase include Don Bosco Prep, Chaminade, and St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes. The showcase is taking place at the Genesse Valley Outdoor Learning Center in Parkton, Maryland.  Shriver said that the response from college coaches was great and they are expecting a large turnout in Parkton this weekend.
