Lake Highland tops Bishop Moore in District 9

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
The Highlanders (8-1; 5-0 district) remained unbeaten in district 9 play last night with a 13 – 5 victory over the host Hornets of Bishop Moore. The game was marred by numerous penalties by both squads which negatively impacted the flow of play. In the first quarter a full 11 minutes were played under an odd man situation due to infractions by both teams including a three minute man-up stretch where Lake Highland scored three goals to take a commanding 5 – 1 lead. The second quarter was hard fought with Bishop Moore scoring goals on either side of a three goal run by Lake Highland including tallies by game leading scorers Will Rotatori (4 goals on the evening), Devon Lewis (3 goals) and Morgan Clark (3 goals). The scrappy play continued after the halftime intermission and the Hornets closed the gap to 9 – 5 with 1:35 remaining in the third quarter before the Highlanders scored the game’s last four goals and the defense, led by another outstanding effort by senior goalie Warren Berenis (7 total saves), shut out Bishop Moore the rest of the way. The Highlanders now prepare for a Saturday road trip to south Florida and a showdown with Gulliver Prep (9-1).  Bishop Moore (7-3) will host Lake Mary (8-1) on Friday.
