Lake Mary defeats Oviedo in a thiller!

This game got rolling fast as Austin Lager scored for Oviedo right off the opening face off in 13 seconds.  Lake Mary Junior midfielder Josh Reedy answered back a minute later to tie it up.  From there, Oviedo put up 2 unanswered goals by Josh Thomas and Adam Bial to end the 1st quarter 3-1 with the advantage to Oviedo.  Two goals in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd quarter by Renner Powell and Will Goodman made it 5-1 before Josh Reedy took over and stuck 2 more goals within a minute of each other to make it 5-3.  Will Goodman another for Oviedo with 1:30 left in the half to take it to 6-3 at the break. The 1st half was dominated by Oviedo as they won the majority of the face offs and possessed the ball for most of the game.  A fired up Lake Mary team came out ready to rally, but Oviedo’s  Matt Tillman scored a quick  one in the 1st minute to make it 7-3.  After some back and forth play, Senior Lake Mary captain Jarod Forehand backed up an errant shot and on the restart whistle simply took his defender 1 on 1 to the cage and scored.  The ensuing face off was won by LM for a fast break goal to bring it to 7-6 and sway the momentum.  Not to be outdone, Oviedo put up one more in the 3rd to close the quarter at 8-6.    Jarod Forehand (off another end line backup) beat his man on an inside roll to start the 1st minute of the 4th and 30 seconds later Lake Mary’s Mike Levin tied it up at 8 apiece as a result of a blown clear by the Lions.  With 7:30 left to play in the game, Lake Mary Senior Sean Manus put in a quick stick on the crease from a feed by Jarod Forehand to take the lead.  Midfielder Scott Dangel tied it back up for Oviedo a minute later off a beautiful pass by Josh Thomas.   With 5:41 left to play in the game Oviedo Senior Renner Powell attempted to pick off a pass intended for Sophomore Cole Lindquist but came up just an inch short.  Cole caught the pass as Powell flew past him and ripped a 10 yard shot top left against Lions goalie Alex Perez to score the go ahead 10-9 goal.  The Rams held the ball for several long possessions until they were forced to keep it in their offensive restraining box with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game, by rule.  After a few long runs with the ball, it finally left the box and Oviedo pushed it towards their end of the field, when not just one, but two Lake Mary attackmen were called offside, giving the Lions a two- man advantage for 30 seconds with 1:15 left in the game.  Junior Lake Mary goalie Dave Moore stuffed a crease shot a few seconds into the man down and chased the rebounded shot towards the end line with 3 Oviedo players following.  Moore  scooped the ball one handed, dodged one player, then dumped the ball up the field to his attack side where Senior Captain Jarod Forehand took it off one bounce and ran around in the box with it until he was slashed and lost it with :45 left on the clock.   The Lake Mary extra man unit was able to hold the ball for the remaining time to hold onto the win.
