via press release   BOX SCORE The Florida Launch lost a closely contested game Saturday night on the road against the Ohio Machine. The 17-13 loss marked Florida’s sixth straight to open the 2016 MLL season. The Launch posted a balanced effort led by Lyle Thompson, Miles Thompson, and Kieran McArdle recording 4 points each. Star player Casey Powell was a scratch for the contest, putting McArdle and the Thompson brothers to lead the charge. The Launch opened scoring in the first half but Roman Lao-Gosney’s goal was quickly answered by a Machine run. The home team, lead by Marcus Holman and Jake Bernhardt’s two goals each, went on a six goal run. Florida’s Pat Frazier ended the scoring streak with his first ever MLL goal. Frazier’s buzzer beater made it 6-2 in the Machine’s favor at the end of the first quarter. Florida found their groove in the second quarter of play as the offense came alive early and often. Ohio’s powerplay goal was quickly responded to with Kieran McArdle and Steven Brooks each scoring a goal. The Machine tallied another score with Jovan Miller reacting quickly to notch his second goal of the season. Roman Lao-Gosney snatched his second tally of the night to end the half with the Launch trailing by just three at 9-6. Despite Florida leading the scoring in the third quarter, Ohio maintained control of the game. Miles Thompson chimed in for his first of the night to bring the Launch within three. A beautiful assist from Kieran McArdle to Owen Blye brought the visitors another score. The closest the Launch came all night to taking over the game came in the third quarter with Kieran McArdle netting his second of the night. Thompson was able to notch another goal before the potent Ohio offense ended the quarter on a 3-1 run. With the Launch down by only four, the fourth quarter was an opportunity for either team to take home the win. Although the Machine played the Rochester Rattlers on Thursday night, they seemed to not have lost a step. The Machine went on a four goal run to put the contest just out of reach for the Launch. Miles Thompson connected with brother Lyle Thompson for his first goal of the night. Kieran McArdle grabbed his hat trick and Connor Buczek created his own shot to cap off the game’s scoring. The Machine pulled away with the 17-13 win as the Launch fall to 0-6. The Launch return to FAU Stadium Saturday, June 11 to face the Denver Outlaws. Face off is set for 7:00PM ET.
