Both Mandarin and Providence entered this game with recent losses, hoping to regain their confidence with another W. Mandarin was coming off a 5-14 loss to Fleming Island while Providence came off a 5-6 OT lass to Fletcher. Each team also entered with injuries, Providence with 1 and Mandarin with 5. Despite losing 5 players to injury this week, including 4 starters, the Mustangs added another win and advance to 3-1 on the season. Junior middie Blake Weil lead the team with 4 goals and went 15-18 on face-offs, playing FOGO most of the game against the Stallions. The Mustangs had a slow start on offense and defense. They gave up 4 goals in the first quarter to give Providence an early lead. Sophomore defenseman, Justin Curtis, rallied the defense to deny Providence opportunities to score in the second quarter. The Mustang offense also rallied in the second quarter to enter the half at 8-4. In the fourth quarter the Mustangs were up 11-10 and the Providence Stallions appeared to be making a charge to tie up the game and enter it’s third overtime in as many games this season. Five saves by freshman goalie Brent Gordon in the 4th quarter and a goal by Blake Weil to bring the score to 12-10 denied Providence of this opportunity.
