Gurowski only double digit scorer for JU Jacksonville, Fla.- The JU men’s lacrosse team fired 21 fourth-quarter shots but couldn’t complete its comeback attempt as the Dolphins lost, 11-7, to Robert Morris on Wednesday afternoon at the Ashley Sports Complex. Sophomore attackman Max Gurowski keyed a balanced JU offense, scoring two goals and adding an assist for a three-point day. Sophomore midfielder Cameron Mann tallied a goal and two assists but couldn’t prevent JU from dropping to 2-3. Robert Morris recorded 51 shots and scored four goals in the third quarter to provide the late cushion. Kyle Buchanan and Trevor Moore each recorded hat tricks to lift Colonials to 2-3. JU took six penalties and Robert Morris capitalized with three man-up goals. The loss marked the first defeat for the Dolphins against an unranked opponent. Freshman goalie Peter DeLuca did his best to keep the Dolphins in the game in making a career-best 20 saves. Colonials goalie Charles Ruppert was up the challenge, compiling 14 saves to preserve the win. The Dolphins held a 3-2 lead at the end of the opening quarter thanks to goals from sophomore middie Jeremy Tissenbaum, Gurowski and Mann. Moore responded with his second goal of the opening half while Buchanan and Corby Tao-Brambleby netted back-to-back goals to give RMU a 5-4 edge at the break. The Colonials broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring four goals in a 6:03 span. RMU took advantage of the extra-man situation thanks to a pushing and slashing violations on the Dolphins in scoring two straight man-up goals just 1:49 apart. Dave Morton finished on Moore’s crisp pass with the first strike and Tao-Brambleby scored his second man-up goal of the game moments later. Buchanan added an even-strength marker to make it 9-5 at 1:59 of the third quarter. JU did its best to get back in the game in the final quarter. The Dolphins bombarded Ruppert with 21 shots, though seven were on target. Ruppert made six saves in the quarter as the Colonials won 3-of-4 faceoffs in the final 15 minutes. The Dolphins will now gear up for competition against fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams. The first league test will come Sunday on the road against Mount St. Mary’s with a 1 p.m. contest.
