MLL: 2016 Warrior Offensive Player of the Year: Rob Pannell

BOSTON (August 17, 2017) ­– Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse League announced New York Lizards attackman, Rob Pannell, as the 2016 Warrior Offensive Player of the Year as voted on by MLL coaches and general managers. This year, Pannell played in all 14 regular season games with the Lizards and scored a career-high 74 points (42 goals and 32 assists) and collected 28 groundballs. With such numbers, Pannell is the MLL scoring leader and broke the MLL single-season scoring record with his 74 points. The previous record was set by Paul Rabil in 2012 with 72 points. In Week 5, Pannell was named the “Coca-Cola Player of the Game” and “Warrior Offensive Player of the Week” after tallying nine points (8G, 1A) in the 21-18 win over the Charlotte Hounds. Pannell was also named “Coca-Cola Player of the Game” and “Warrior Offensive Player of the Week” in Week 7 after scoring four goals and dishing three assists in the 21-18 win over the Denver Outlaws. Pannell was also chosen to be on the 2016 MLL All-Star Team and showcased his offensive talents with five points in that game. Pannell, a standout at Cornell University, was selected first overall by the Lizards at the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft. Pannell, who entered the League in 2013, made an immediate impact to the Lizards offense with 42 points and earned Cascade Rookie of the Year honors. In 2014, he became New York’s leading scorer with 56 points. The offensive success continued into the 2015 season where Pannell became the MLL scoring leader with 38 goals and 30 assists for 68 total points. Pannell was also named to the MLL All-Star team and All-MLL team. Warrior Offensive Player of the Year Voting The  2016  “Warrior Offensive Player of the Year” is determined based on the total number of points each player receives.  Every vote is assigned a point total, with first place receiving five points, second place receiving three points and third place receiving one point.
