PC’s Sam Talkow Named Patriot League Faceoff Specialist of the Year

via press release – photo via Lax Magazine   CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The top two seeds in the Patriot League Tournament collected five of the six yearly awards, as the All-Patriot League Teams and Major Awards were announced Monday afternoon by the League office. Loyola Maryland freshman standout Pat Spencer was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Year as well as the Rookie of the Year, while Boston University’s Sam Talkow garnered Faceoff Specialist of the Year in a close vote for the inaugural award. Navy cleaned up the remaining honors, with Defensive Player of the Year going to Chris Fennell and Goalkeeper of the Year being awarded to John Connors. Head coach Rick Sowell was named the William Lawson Coach of the Year.   Excerpt: Talkow becomes the first player in Patriot League history to be honored as the Faceoff Specialist of the Year. The junior has played a crucial role for the Terriers this year – a season in which they reached a program-best national ranking of No. 16. Individually, he is second in the nation with a 0.695 faceoff winning percentage and ninth in ground balls per game with 6.62. He leads the League in both categories, helping the team as a whole lead the League with a 0.644 faceoff winning percentage – which ranks fifth in the nation. Earlier this season, Talkow was added to the Tewaarton Watch List, becoming the first Terrier in program history to be added to the list.
