Freshman midfielder scored two goals last game to help JU to win over Canisius JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Freshman midfielder Rob Moore was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s “Rookie of the Week” after tallying four points in his last two games, the league announced on Monday. Moore scored twice at Canisius on Saturday to lift the Dolphins to the first conference victory in program history. He also recorded a goal and an assist against the Big East-member Scarlet Knights earlier in the week. The West Islip, N.Y. native has three multi-point games this season. “Rob has done a great job all season of learning the pace of Division I lacrosse,” JU head coach Matt Kerwick said. “With continued hard work, he has the potential to be one of our top offensive performers.  As his role continues to grow on our team we will look to his leadership down the stretch.” Moore registered his seventh goal of the season 8:15 into the third quarter to give JU a two-goal edge over the Griffins. He also assisted on Jeremy Tissenbaum’s even-strength marker with 2:47 remaining to close out the 12-8 victory over Canisius for the first MAAC victory in JU’s two-year history. The Dolphins played as an independent in 2010. Moore has played in all eight games, starting three. The middie has become a fixture on the second unit and has capitalized on his chance to play on the top line, compiling three assists and 10 total points while collecting eight ground balls and causing one turnover. The award marks the second time a JU player has earned an in-season honor. Senior Bobby Stockton was named the “Offensive Player of the Week” on March 7. JU will next be in action on Saturday when it hosts conference-rival Detroit in a 1 p.m. game at D.B. Milne Field.
