_untitled_ 49#E975The Second annual Sarah M. Landauer Lacrosse Invitational and 5K wrapped up Saturday evening March 2nd closing out two days of high school lacrosse.  This year’s participants included; The First Academy, Lawton Chiles High, Gulf Breeze High, Gainesville High, Buchholz High School, Bishop Snyder, Berkley Prep, Trinity Catholic, Nease High,  Rockledge High, Pensacola High and host Eastside High School. It proved to be a cold weekend but it was a great tribute to Sarah Landauer a wonderful young person of faith and community, an outstanding honor student, and standout Eastside High School athlete.  Sarah’s life was cut short in March 2011 and the event is a tribute to her. It raises money in her memory to support a University of Florida Soccer Endowment established in her name www.sarahlandauer.org. _untitled_ 302#5655There were a number of really competitive games including a couple highlight match ups that including a 3-0 win for The First Academy from Orlando over Lawton Chiles High School from Tallahassee on Friday night.  Coming back Saturday The First Academy was able to walk away with a 10 to 8 win over Trinity Catholic of Ocala.  The Gainesville High School Hurricanes squeaked one out a win over invitational host Eastside High School 6-4.  On Saturday the Buchholz boys won an overtime thriller against Berkley Prep 8 to 7 and in the same fashion as the boys the Buchholz Girls pulled out a 12 to 11 overtime win over a shorthanded Nease High School girls team. After  being edged out by Buchholz, Berkley Prep took advantage of young Gainesville High School team in a decisive victory on Saturday.  The event also included some first year programs including the Rockledge girls who fell in a close game to Gulf Breeze while the _untitled_ 288#5E20Rockledge Boys took advantage of an upstart Pensacola team to conclude the event on Saturday evening. The organizers are thankful for all of the participants and parents who traveled from all over the state of Florida to make the second annual SMiLe Invitational a huge success. Next year’s invitational will again be held the first weekend in March, requests to participate will be taken immediately and the field will be limited again this year.
