From Wells Dusenbury at ESPN 760 One of Florida’s most decorated lacrosse players is looking to take his game to the global level. St. Andrew’s alum Lee Coppersmith will be in Israel this week to try out for the Israeli National Team. If Coppersmith makes the team, he will suit up for the squad as they compete in the 2014 World Lacrosse Championships in Denver, Colorado. While Coppersmith is an American citizen, Federation of International Lacrosse rules allow players of Jewish faith to play for Team Israel. Coppersmith won four state championships during his time at St. Andrew’s and was the first player from the state of Florida to sign with college lacrosse powerhouse Johns Hopkins. The standout midfielder was also recently selected by the Boston Cannons in the Major League Lacrosse Draft. I sat down with Coppersmith last week to discuss trying out for Team Israel, possibly being reunited with former St. Andrew’s head coach Jeff Goldberg and the experience of hearing his name called in the MLL Draft.
