St. Andrews Suffers First Loss of the Season to Boys Latin 7-6 – See Video Highlights

Boys Latin had other plans. The Lakers scored two goals in the final 1:23, including the game winner with one second left, to edge St. Andrew’s 7-6 in a battle of dominant lacrosse teams. “They’re always good games,” said Boys Latin (MD.) head coach Rob Shriver. “It’s the premier program in Florida.” St. Andrew’s took a 6-5 lead midway through the 4th quarter after midfielder Andy Wheeler diced his way through traffic for the go-ahead goal, but the Scots couldn’t close out the Lakers. With 1:23 left, Colin Heacock tied it up for Boys Latin after driving from behind the net. The Lakers won the ensuing face-off, and with under a minute to play, St. Andrew’s committed a slashing penalty, giving Boys Latin a man-up opportunity. The Lakers took full advantage with Michael Lynch scoring the game winner with one second to play. “They’re very patient with the ball, they’re very methodical,” said St. Andrew’s head coach R.J. Dawson. “They have an end result every time on every play they run and they executed it.” The biggest struggle for St. Andrew’s was their inability to control face-offs, an area they’ve thrived at during the first half of the season.
