From Youth1.com (Youth1) – The Sunshine State Games Lacrosse Tournament is one of the sport’s hottest events to hit Florida and the weekend was jam packed with great competition in a fun environment. The tourney, which was held from May 18th-20th, is the nation’s second oldest State Games and is Florida’s largest and longest multi-sport festival. The event returned back to Broward County and was held at Pine Trails Park in Parkland, Florida where it received a huge turnout that included seven different boys’ age groups and divisions for the youth level and girls’ middle school age group. Below are the following teams who had successful and victorious weekends and finished in 1st place. U9 Coming out on top for the U9 division was Team 22, which is a part of the program directed and founded by the four-time college All-American and current NLL and MLL player, Casey Powell. The club was extremely impressive on the weekend and opened up their tournament play with a big 12-4 win over team Headstrong and then continued on with a dominating 15-0 performance against Snipers Lacrosse. Heading into the second day with a 2-0 record, Team 22 played their final two games against the Broward Barracudas, who also sported the same record and proved to be quite a challenge. However, in the end it was Team 22 who won both tilts by scores of 8-4 and then a nail-biting 3-2 victory. U11A In the U11A division, it was mainly a battle between two squads, Florida Xtreme and Storm Black, but as the weekend came to a close, it was Florida Xtreme who posted a 4-0 record for the 1st-place finish. The Xtreme was another team who started out blazing hot in the tournament with a 15-1 win over the Broward Barracudas and then an 11-0 shutout against Snipers Lacrosse. Then going into the second and final day of the tournament for the Xtreme, the club played a closer matchup against BDE Blue, but were still able to edge them 12-7. Their most impressive win, however, was an 11-3 defeat over the 2nd place Storm Black, which showed just how superb this team was. U11B It was a great weekend to be a part of Team 22, as they struck again when their U11B team also walked away as the top squad in their age group at the Sunshine State Games. Allowing just four goals against them in three games, the club’s first contest against the Wellingon Wolfpack was a scare, but they still won 4-3 as they powered on and never looked back. Saturday was a much better day for Team 22, as they blew away their competition. In their first game, they faced Snipers Lacrosse and allowed them just one goal for a 6-1 victory. In their final matchup they ended in a true champion fashion by shutting out team Xtreme 8-0. Read the rest of the article at Youth1.com
