Tampa: Men’s Lacrosse Earns Four Face Off Yearbook Preseason All-America Honors

BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 4 University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team totaled four selections on the Face Off Yearbook Preseason All-America squad, including a pair of first team nods. The teams were announced on Inside Lacrosse on Wednesday.
Senior and three-time All-American Conor Whipple picked up first team honors while sophomore A.J. Ferraro was also named to the top squad. Senior Marty Heyn and sophomore Andrew Kew were tabbed for the second team in Wednesday’s release.
Whipple has cemented his name in UT men’s lacrosse history as he is the program leader in nine offensive categories and holds the single-season mark in eight. The senior enters his final season of play with 248 total points with 127 goals and 121 assists in just three years at Tampa.
Ferraro enters his sophomore season after a strong collegiate debut that saw 57 ground balls as a long-stick midfielder. The Parkland, Fla. native added seven caused turnovers while scoring three goals in his first season of play.
Kew led the Spartan offense in his first season of play, totaling 54 goals to rank second in a single season of play. The sophomore notched 16 ground balls in his freshman campaign while adding four caused turnovers and four game-winning goals.

Heyn has been stalwart for the Tampa defense entering his final season of play. The senior ranks first all-time in caused turnovers with 66 and has started a program-best 56 games as he begins his final campaign. The defender posted 21 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers in his junior season to earn All-America honorable mention.

The Spartans debut at home on February 5, hosting Tusculum for a 12:00 p.m. start.
