ORLANDO, FLORIDA—Team Florida Lacrosse is excited to return to Central Florida for its 3rd Annual D1 College Skills Camp.  Team Florida is committed to the innovation of their product and creating more specialized instruction for experienced players who want to improve by giving the Florida Lacrosse player a D1 image001-1Lacrosse experience.  With the combined efforts of Navy Assistant Coach Ryan Wellner, NJIT Head Coach Travis Johnson, and VMI Coach Jon Birsner Team Florida will be bringing down 16 Division 1 College Coaches to give the kids a camp experience like no other.  The Team Florida D1 College skills camp will be held at the Omni Champions Gate Resort on Saturday December 17th 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and Sunday December 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for lacrosse players across the state of Florida to get exposure to Division 1 coaches while receiving the highest level of coaching. Jon Birsner is the Head Coach of the Virginia Military Institute and when asked about coming down to Florida for the College Skills Camp, Jon said “I am really excited to get back down to Florida for the D1 Skills Camp. It is always a pleasure to work with and teach hard working and respectful young men.” Team Florida is dedicated to providing the best coaches from the area and is fully committed to offering the very best instruction to developing lacrosse players, which is why this event has been created to get high level Division 1 coaches working with our athletes.  Jeff Goldberg, Team Florida owner and director of the Youth side of the camp, has earned a reputation of excellence in the South Florida area and across the country.  He commented,  “I’m real excited about this opportunity for the kids. To have coaches flying down from D1 programs like Princeton, Georgetown, and UNC to individually work with our Florida players is pretty special. I can’t think of a better way to get tuned up for the season. The players need it and we as coaches get an opportunity to see what the college coaches are doing which helps us stay fresh with our own programs.” With the growth of the sport and so many recruiting showcases and tournaments, many kids are not working on their craft to get better and work on the parts of the game that needs work.  Instead they just keep going to tournaments to get looked at.  Team Florida owner Tom West says, “No one goes to camp anymore. There are so many recruiting events out there that most young players are getting wrapped up in the recruiting side of the sport and not taking the time to go to camp to become a better player. As kids we all went to summer camp to become better players and unfortunately, teaching camps just don’t exist anymore.” Certainly, this Division 1 experience is bringing the skills camp back to life in a BIG way! What an opportunity for players of all ages in the state of Florida to really develop their game and get themselves ready for the upcoming season while also being exposed to Division 1 coaching. The camp is for all boys grades 3-12 and all information for the camp can be found on the Team Florida website http://www.teamfloridalax.com/.
