Last week’s Team Florida game of the week was the District 10 match- up between Winter Park and Boone.  The game did not disappoint as Winter Park squeaked out a one goal victory over Boone, giving the Wildcats the top seed in a very competitive District 10 tournament.  This week’s selection for the Team Florida game of the Week is the SFIA championship game this Friday night between undefeated Benjamin School and the white-hot Jupiter Christian School, who have won 10 in a row.  The winner of the Friday night game, being played at Boca High School, will turn around on Saturday night to face the winner of the Estero vs. Tampa Jesuit game for the Independent Lacrosse State Championship.  Benjamin School is the clear favorite in this match-up.  They are undefeated, they are the reigning champs, and they delivered a 9-2 beat down to Jupiter Christian early in the season.   It’s going to be up the Eagles of Jupiter Christian to bring their “A” game to get this done if they want a crack at the State Championship. Their “A” game is exactly what the last 10 opponents have seen from Jupiter Christian.  After a sloppy 2-5 start, including 4 losses in a row, the Eagles got on a roll and have not slowed down.  One key to the turn-around is  Senior Ryan Powers.  He got hot in the goal and hasn’t cooled off yet.  Powers has over 200 saves this season, a 70% save percentage, and gets the offense started with great ball handling skills.  Coach Justin Moe has learned to make use of the talent he has available.  Jupiter Christian is not deep with talent or numbers.  Usually only 15 or 16 players see the field for Jupiter Christian.  In fact, they will only play 3 d-poles.  Long Stick Middie – Trey Pendergrass, who will be playing football this fall for Eastern Illinois, didn’t like the long pole.  So, he plays the LSM position with his short stick and gets the job done. Keep an eye on Saint Andrews transfer Steel Stockstill and team assist leader Kevin Meyer.  Both players have learned to be versatile and Meyer, the team leader in assists, will be playing both attack and middie Friday evening.  This is a classic match-up of the underdog on a hot streak and the reigning champions.  Both of these teams had better come out ready to play, and with an 8:30 start the winner better get ready for a fast turn-around for the Saturday night game. Other games of interest this week include the other championship being played at Boca High School Friday night; undefeated Estero vs. Tampa Jesuit for the Gulf Coast League Championship and Tuesday night’s game featuring Ponte Vedra traveling to Orlando to play Lake Brantley.
