Time for Team Florida’s Game of the Week

We have selected the Lake Mary vs. Lake Brantley game as the Team Florida Game of the week. After a bunch of great games around the state last week the District Championship trophies have all been handed out, the field is cut to 15 teams, and the Regional Semis are about to get underway.

One game we think is headed to OT is the Lake Mary at Lake Brantley game. Lake Brantley took the regular season match up 10-4 but when we break it down by position it’s hard to make a case that either team has a big advantage. They match up well everywhere.

The schedule favors Lake Mary. The Rams finished the regular season playing two great teams in Winter Park and St. Andrews but then were able to put it on cruise control through the District play-offs. At this point, they are experienced and rested.

Lake Brantley had a tough, emotional win over Oviedo to win the District 5 Championship game in a 10-9 last-minute thriller. This was against a team they had faced two weeks previously and beaten 11-7. Were they overly confident going into that game? Can they recover emotionally and physically in time to do it again? We think, yes, without a doubt. Coach Theiss and his team have been here before.

Lake Mary is a program on the rise. Head Coach Shawn Perkins has these guys playing at this program’s highest level yet. They believe this is their time. Lake Brantley has proven over and over that they can get the job done. They may have lost just a little bit of the air of invincibility, but they are still the team to beat. This has that feel of an immovable object facing an unstoppable force.

The winner of this game will play the winner of the Apopka vs. Cardinal Mooney game.

Other Games around the State

Episcopal Jacksonville hosts Leon. The winner of which will take on the winner of the Ponte Vedra at Oak Hall game.

Baron Collier travels to Saint Andrews. The winner of this one will face the winner of the Saint Thomas Aquinas at Gulliver Prep game.

Lake Highland Prep will play host to Winter Park. This should be another great game with the winner facing Vero Beach who has a bye in this round.

All games are Tuesday at 7:00.
