via press release   Canterbury School is pleased to welcome Trent Carter to the Canterbury family as our new Dean of Students and Head Lacrosse Coach for our Varsity Boys team, effective July 1, 2016. Carter comes to us from Barron Collier High School in Naples, where he has spent the past five seasons as Head Coach. Under his leadership, the Barron Collier Cougars earned five straight district championships and top ten rankings in the state. Carter brings with him a strong college preparatory school background, having attended Boys’ Latin School, the oldest independent, nonsectarian secondary school in Maryland. He tells us that he is looking forward to the opportunity to work with students in this important role. “As Dean of Students, you must be both an advocate for your students and be able to maintain structure in everyday school life. It is a great balancing act that requires diplomacy, empathy, and discipline.” Carter has had great experience working with students both on and off the field, throughout his years as a coach, even helping students earn spots at top colleges across the country.     “Trent has been around independent schools almost his entire life, and he understands the prep school culture. He will be a great asset to help tighten things up here at Canterbury School and continue to provide a reliable and safe environment for our students,” explains Head of School Rick Kirschner. Carter started his coaching career at the Division I collegiate level, where he was the offensive coordinator of the only undefeated team in Bucknell University’s history. He played lacrosse during his time at Boys’ Latin School and at Hobart College, where he played on two of Hobart’s National Championship teams. He is also the Co-Founder, Director, and National Team Coach of the Madlax-Florida All-Star Program, a comprehensive national lacrosse organization offering elite level travel club teams, camps, clinics, leagues, and private lessons for boys ages 5 to 18. Carter has earned numerous recognitions throughout his career, including Coach of the Year by Naples Daily News from 2012 – 2016 and U.S. Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2014.
