Windermere Prep Hires Rollins College Assistant Coach

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Windermere Prep wasted no time in finding and hiring a well-qualified coach to take their team into the first ever season of FHSAA district play.  They have hired Rollins Assistant Coach, Scott McNicol.  This will be the fourth overall season of Windermere Prep lacrosse and their first foray into district play.  The Lakers will be competing in District 14 with Olympia, Dr. Phillips, Lake Nona, and Freedom HS. Scott McNicol’s lacrosse background began under Hall of Famer John Detomasso at Mepham High School in Bellmore, NY. As a senior, McNicol helped bring Mepham to Long Island’s Class A Nassau County finals, while receiving All-conference honors. After high school, he attended Nassau Community College in Long Island and played for Hall of Fame Coach Rich Speckman, who won 26 Junior College Division 1 National Championships. McNicol helped bring Nassau CC to the JUCO National Final Four, while losing to the eventual national champion Herkimer CC in the semifinals in triple overtime. His playing career concluded at Molloy College in Long Island. McNicol was a starting mid-fielder his two years at Molloy. Upon leaving Molloy, they were ranked nationally in the top 10 in Division 2 as well as the top seed in the ECAC tourney. Upon graduating from college, McNicol began coaching as the Head Assistant-Co Head at Long Island Lutheran High School. Coach McNicol helped resurrect a once competitive team at LIU from 2-10 to a playoff berth their first year with a strong sophomore class at the core. Many players from those teams went on to play high level division 1, 2 and 3 ball at various schools. McNicol then began coaching at Rollins College for two seasons as an assistant, helping with various duties both offensively and defensively while also handling box substitutions. McNicol was also an FHSAA sanctioned H.S. referee for one year to remain rooted with Orlando high school lacrosse. Windermere Prep will open their season by hosting American Heritage/Boca on February 25th.
