BOX SCORE

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (February 16, 2021) – The first ever women’s lacrosse game in the history of Webber International University featured an extremely tough matchup on the road at No. 3 nationally-ranked Keiser University, and in the end, the Warriors fell by a final score of 23-2 on Tuesday night. It was also the inaugural Mid-South Conference game for the Warriors.

It was a fast and furious start for Keiser, which led 1-0 nine seconds into the match, led 2-0 less than a minute in, led 4-0 less than three minutes in, and then led 6-0 three minutes and 30 seconds in after three goals in a 34-second span.

With just over 12 minutes left in the first half, Webber got its first offensive opportunity deep in Keiser territory after the draw control was won by Natalie Baumgarten, but unfortunately the Warriors were unable to get off their first shot attempt of the game before turning it over.

In all, Webber finished the first half trailing 14-0 with 18 turnovers and three draw controls, and was 0-for-13 on clears. Webber’s goalkeeper, Ashley Bosch, had nine saves at the half, however, 10 different Seahawks scored in the first half while three had two goals or more.

After a groundball by Bosch and the first successful clear in program history by Webber, the first ever shot attempt and goal in program history for the Warriors came with 18:46 left in the second half on a great run and finish into the back of the goal by Baumgarten.

Then after a long rain delay and with just under 10 minutes left to play, Kaitlyn Patterson had a shot saved, but she broke through with a goal on a free position attempt with four minutes remaining.

Maria Horrell finished the game accounting for half of Webber’s six draw controls in its inaugural game.

Next up, Webber will host its first ever home game as the Warriors welcome No. 9 Life University to the Warrior Turf Field for a 12 p.m. game time on Saturday, February 20. It will be the second straight conference game for Webber to open its inaugural season.
