No. 1 Keiser women’s lacrosse was locked in a battle in Savannah, Georgia, on Saturday afternoon, but it was SCAD-Savannah who was able to take advantage late to claim the inaugural Sun Conference Tournament Championship. 
First Quarter
SCAD 1, Keiser 0

  • SCAD was first on the board after three minutes of action with Annise Berkeley finding a hole in the defense and bouncing a shot in.
  • The rest of the quarter would go goalless with both keepers making multiple saves to keep it a one-score game.

Second Quarter
Keiser 3, SCAD 3

  • After missing the first game of the tournament with an injury, Milena Isturiz was back on the field and scoring tying the game on a free position goal at the 13:58 mark.
  • The Bees would answer with Aly De Caro getting her first goal of the game just two minutes later.
  • Keiser would get the ensuing draw control and possession before Hayley Frew would spin her defender and beat the keeper to tie the game with 11:22 to play in the second.
  • With just under seven minutes on the clock, Abbey Cannon would find a cutting Samantha Esher who worked her way around the goal and gave the Seahawks their first lead of the game.
  • SCAD would have an answer at the 4:50 mark with Clarke Haas creating a 1-on-1 chance with the keeper and going high into the net to tie the game going into the half.
Third Quarter

SCAD 7, Keiser 4

  • A slow start to the third was broken open by Cannon off an assist from Sydney Passaro to put KU in front 4-3 at the 8:30 mark.
  • Following a miscue on defense for the Seahawks, Emma Roch was left alone to beat the keeper and she did to tie the game at 4-4 with 6:08 on the clock.
  • The Bees continued their pressure, putting in back-to-back goals separated by just 40 seconds to take a 6-4 lead with 4:14 showing.
  • SCAD would tack on another goal with six seconds left in the quarter to make it 7-4 heading into the final 15 minutes of the game.
Fourth Quarter

SCAD 9, Keiser 6

  • Talia Myers had the Seahawks going in the right direction with her first goal of the day with just over one minute going by in the fourth.
  • SCAD would have an answer with Roch scoring her second of the day with less than 10 minutes to play to put the Bees ahead 8-5.
  • With 7:52 on the clock, Haas would secure her hat trick on a free position goal to put SCAD up 9-5.
  • Esher would tally a free position goal with 90 seconds left but it would not be enough as the Bees would run out the remainder of the clock.

KU Highlights

  • 5: Cannon and Myers each scooped up five groundballs in the game.
  • 4: Myers led the team in draw controls in the game with four.
  • 3: She and Gibson tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with three each.
  • 2: Cannon and Esher each tallied two points in the contest with Esher using two goals while Cannon went with one goal and one assist.
  • 1/100: With her goal in the fourth quarter, Myers joined Madison Andrews and Melanie Brown as the only Seahawks to score 100 goals in their Keiser careers.
  • 5: Cassidy Green made five saves in net for Seahawks
  • 15: Keiser’s winning streak ends at 15 which is the second longest in program history.
  • 26: The Seahawks outshot the Bees in the contest 26-18.
