#10 Flagler Captures First Gulf South Conference Tournament Title

ST. AUGUSTINE – Carley Tepel scored four goals and Katelyn Trainor added three more to help power No. 10 (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association Top 25) Flagler College to a 16-12 win over Lander University in the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship game Sunday afternoon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
Flagler improved to 17-1 and will find out where they will play in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Selections will take place on May 7. Lander’s season came to an end with an overall record of 11-7.
The Saints trailed the Bearcats early, 2-0, but went on to score the next seven goals to take control. Tournament Most Outstanding Player Lexie Morton got Flagler on the board with an unassisted goal with 6:11 left to go in the first quarter. Carly LaFerriere scored the equalizer at 5:58 and Tepel added back-to-back goals to the Saints the lead for good.
The Bearcats rallied to get to within one (11-10) after a Brooke Kelly goal with 4:21 left in the third quarter.
Sydney Onega, Ella Pinder, and Morton all scored two goals. Pinder had seven draw controls. Lauren Ribadeneira finished with six saves.
Kelly led Lander with five goals. Autumn Huskey had seven draw controls and four caused turnovers. Taryn Samons tallied five saves.
