#10 Saints Extinguish the Flames to Advance to GSC Championship

ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 10 (IWLCA Division II Top 25 Poll) Flagler College took down fourth-seeded Lee University, 20-14, at Flagler Lacrosse Field this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference Women’s Lacrosse Tournament.

The Saints (16-1) now advance to GSC Championship game in hopes of winning the program’s first postseason tourney title. The game will take place on their home field on Sunday, April 30 at noon against third-seeded Lander University. Lander edged The University of Alabama in Huntsville 15-13 in the second semifinal this afternoon. Lee ended its season with an 8-10 mark.

The Saints were led offensively by Lexie Morton with six goals and two assists, followed closely by Kaitlyn Trainor who netted five goals. 

Morton and Sydney Onega quickly scored the first two goals of the game to give the Saints a fast lead. However, Noelle Harrington and Brittney White fired right back scoring for the Flames to even it out. Lee quickly created a lead and ended the first half up 9-7.

The Saints did not back down though, opening up the second half with back-to-back goals by Morton and Onega to begin the third quarter. The Saints continued to create a lead the rest of the second half to win, including a hat trick from Carley Tepel and goals from Ella PinderJordan Green, and Carly LaFerriere.

Trainor and LaFerriere made their presence felt defensively as well, causing two turnovers and picking up four ground balls each. Jenn Seebach and LaFerriere shined through on the draw as well, winning five draw controls apiece for the Saints. Lauren Ribadeneira came out of today’s game with six saves.
