Second-Ranked Rollins Trounces Trojans in Home Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 24, 2024) – The No. 2 Rollins men’s lacrosse team ran away with Saturday’s home opener, defeating visiting Anderson, 16-7. The Tars (3-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first and were already up 11-1 at the half as they easily handled the Trojans (2-2).

Jack Johnstone scored a game-high four goals while Mikey Berkman tallied a game-leading five points on three goals and two assists. Logan Myers added three goals and Sam Mattson chipped in with two goals and an assist. Shahé Katchadurian (3-0) got the win, stopping a career-high 17 shots out of the 20 he faced in nearly 51 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • Berkman kicked things off with a pair of goals in the first six minutes to put the Tars up 2-0.
  • Johnson, Mattson, and Myers each tallied markers to extend the lead to 5-0 after the first 15 minutes.

Second Quarter

  • Anderson finally broke through with the opening goal of the second before Johnstone rattled off three in a row to make it 8-1.
  • Myers netted two more in the closing minutes of the half, with Grant Hansen also finding the back of the net, giving the Blue and Gold a commanding 11-1 lead at the break.

Third Quarter

  • The third quarter saw Anderson get on the board in the first 65 seconds, but Charlie Metz and Hansen answered that with goals of their own to increase the margin to 13-2.
  • After another Trojan goal, Berkman put home his third of the day to make it a 14-3 contest after three quarters.

Fourth Quarter

  • Mattson scored just under six minutes into the fourth to give the Tars a 15-3 edge.
  • Anderson tallied four goals in the final nine minutes, with Chad Bulera adding a goal as well, accounting for the 16-7 final score.
