2017 Cascade Rookie of the Year Nominees Announced – Dylan Molloy Named A Finalist

Here are the nominees for the 2017 Cascade Rookie of the Year:   Josh Byrne, Attack, Chesapeake Bayhawks After being drafted by Chesapeake in the third round of the 2017 MLL Collegiate Draft, Byrne went on to become the most prolific rookie goal scorer in the history of the league with 39 goals. He led all MLL players in goals in 2017 and was named the Cascade Rookie of the Week on two occasions. Despite only playing in 10 games, the Hofstra product finished the year tied for the 10th-most points in the league (46). Byrne recorded his second seven-goal game of the year on Aug. 3 against Denver to break the rookie scoring record previously held by Kieran McArdle. Dylan Molloy, Attack, Florida Launch A former Tewaaraton winner, Molloy scored at least one point in all eight games he played with the Launch and finished the season with 21 goals and six assists. He was named the Warrior Offensive Player of the Week after his very first pro game when he scored a hat trick and assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime. He scored a career-best six goals on July 22 against Charlotte and was named the Cascade Rookie of the Week for the second straight week. Molloy became the first Brown player ever drafted in the first round of the MLL Collegiate Draft when the Launch selected him with the first-overall pick. Zach Currier, Midfield, Denver Outlaws The Outlaws traded up in the Draft to select Currier with the sixth-overall pick and he responded with 11 goals and 15 assists in nine games for the defending champions. Currier was one of two rookies to play in the 2017 MLL All-Star Game. In a 17-14, come-from-behind win against the Lizards on June 24, Currier tallied a career-high four points with a goal and three assists. The Princeton product matched his career high again on July 23 when he had four assists in Denver’s 13-12 loss to Ohio.
