#3 Men’s Lacrosse Punches Ticket to Semifinal Round

BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 22, 2023) – The Webber International University men’s lacrosse team hosted the quarterfinal round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament on Friday afternoon against SCAD-Savannah. The Warriors’ offense was too much for the Bees as they cruised to a 24-6 victory on home soil.
 
The Warriors (15-2 overall) heavily outshot SCAD (4-9), 47-19 and won 24 of the 34 total face-offs.
 
Christian Tapia drew first blood for the Warriors roughly a minute into the game. There would then be over eight scoreless minutes before Dillon Ziemba added a second. Goals by Tapia and Cade McCarron extended Webber’s lead to 4-0 before SCAD scored its first of the game. Nick Sheaffer netted a goal with 15 seconds left in the quarter to make it 5-1 heading into the next period.
 
After going back-and-forth with the Bees to start the second, the Warriors locked in and scored four-straight to end the half. McCarron and Sheaffer both tallied their second goals of the game while Blake NelsonCade Bullard, and Jeremiah Loo all scored their firsts of the game. The Warriors held a comfortable 10-3 lead at the halftime break.
 
Webber had its best offensive quarter in the third as the team scored a total of nine. Eight of those nine goals were scored by different players as Chase Jackson was the only player to score twice in the period. McCarron also recorded his hat-trick in the third as well. The Warriors held strong defensively, allowing just one goal in the third quarter and two in the fourth.
 
SCAD was outscored 5-2 for the fourth quarter as Nicholas Cordero netted three times in the last 11 minutes to earn a hat-trick.
 
The offense was led by Jackson and McCarron who both ended with five points in total. Jackson ended with two goals and a team-high three assists while McCarron added three goals and two assists. Tapia contributed with two goals and two assists as Loo and N. Cordero both tallied three points.
 
Hunter Scott ended 20-of-28 from the spot and collected a team-high 11 ground balls. He was followed by Jackson and Cameron Paleski who both had five ground balls each. Paleski also led the team in caused turnovers with three. Alex Cordero spent the first three quarters in the cage, tallying two saves while Riley Graves finished off the final quarter with two saves as well.
 
The Warriors will now travel to Kentucky for the semifinal matchup, hosted by the University of the Cumberlands, against No. 1 Keiser University at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 28th.
