#9 Rollins Women Mauls Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. (March 4, 2023) – The ninth-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team won its second game by double-digits in three days on Saturday, defeating Young Harris by a score of 18-5. The Tars are now 5-0 on the season, while the Mountain Lions drop to 3-4.

Abigail Cawley tallied six points on three goals and three assists, while Madison McGarry racked up three goals, an assist, and two ground balls. Caroline Bailey and Charlotte Gastonguay also contributed three goals apiece, and Molly Mendes chipped in with two goals and an assist.

Rachel Schlesinger (5-0) got the win in goal, stopping four of the seven shots she faced in the first half. Claire Barber made three saves on five shots against in her 30 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • Young Harris got on the board first with a goal at the 12:20 mark of the opening quarter.
  • McGarry tallied the next two goals, less than a minute apart, to put Rollins up, 2-1.
  • After YHC tied it up, Bailey scored her first of the game to give the Tars a 3-2 lead with 6:29 on the clock.
  • Charlotte Gastonguay scored just over a minute later, and Bailey found the net again less than a minute after that, increasing the lead to 5-2.
  • McGarry’s third goal of the quarter made it 6-2, and less than a minute later Mendes pushed the lead to 7-2.

Second Quarter

  • Caroline Gastonguay scored less than a minute into the second, and Charlotte Gastonguay netted her second of the game 63 seconds later, increasing the margin to 9-2.
  • Bailey and Cawley got the next two goals, giving Rollins an 11-2 edge.
  • After a Mountain Lion goal, Holyn Trautwein scored a woman-up goal, followed a couple minutes later by another Cawley tally, extending the lead to double-digits for the first time at 13-3 with 5:10 on the clock.
  • Lauren Noonan added another goal for the Tars in the closing minutes, giving Rollins a commanding 14-3 edge after one half of play.

Third Quarter

  • With the clock running thanks to the 10-plus goal differential, the first goal of the third wasn’t recorded until Mendes found the net with 3:50 to play.
  • The Mountain Lions got one back in the closing seconds, making it a 15-4 game heading to the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

  • Cawley scored first in the fourth, with Charlotte Gastonguay completing her hat trick with 11:37 left in the contest.
  • After a Young Harris goal, Delanie Aberie tallied the last marker of the day, accounting for the 18-5 final.

UP NEXT:
The Tars will return home to kick off a seven-game homestand on Wednesday, March 8, when they welcome Concordia, St. Paul for a 4 p.m. game.
