Here’s a taste . . .

One Girls score that caught my eye was Cardinal Newman’s big 21-12 win over Boca Raton to move to 4-2 on the season, dropping Boca to 1-2.  CN lost two close games to Jupiter and King’s Academy early on, so this was a bit of a surprise to me given Boca’s excellent season last year, but the Bobcats did lose their previous game to Independent Cypress Bay, so I have to dig a little deeper on them.  They did graduate their two leading scorers.  Cardinal Newman has a budding star in Soph Ella Strong, who has put up 32G/21A in only 6 games, after 78G/31A last year as a Frosh.  I’ll need to learn more about her!

Tonight, we have one of the more remarkable rivalry games in the state, as Benjamin travels to Saint Andrew’s for their annual donnybrook.  I’ve attended a lot of them over the years, including one that was an internet broadcast in 2015.  The remarkable thing is that for all the successes Benjamin has had since going varsity in 2013, they still have failed to beat the Scots.  And we’re not talking a lot of blowouts. 2-goal loss last year.  Two years ago it was a 2-goal loss in the Final Four.  Double OT loss in 2019.  If Benjamin has a kryptonite problem, it’s of Scottish origin.

Both come in undefeated. Both were Top 3 last year in the final poll and are Top 3 again now.  Or will Lucy pull the football away again this year?  7:00pm start in Boca if you are a fan and no ticket charge!  If you are out of the area, I think this might be on YouTube tonight on the SA Scots channel.  I’ll be there just to enjoy watching what should be a fun early season game.

And just up the road, about 5 miles north, the annual slugfest between the AH-Delray Girls and Lake Highland takes place at 4:30pm!  Another FREE game to attend!  What a doubleheader and I get to see BOTH!  Pinch me.  The Lacrosse Gods sent a beauty today.  You don’t get nights like this outside of the state championships too often.
