ATS – Sarasota Herald Covers Riverview Victory Over Canterbury-Ft. Myers
With the score tied and the homestanding Cougars on the attack midway through the fourth quarter, the Rams’ Jake Day made a jarring check to knock the ball loose. In transition, Dusty Hibbs found captain Jesse Clark to break a 6-6 tie for Riverview with 5:56 left in regulation of the regional first-round play-in game.
Less than a minute later, Mike Van Ness found the back of the net on a feed from Clark to give the Rams a two-goal cushion.
Clark then put the game on ice with an empty-net goal on an assist from Peter Giannone in Riverview’s 9-6 win over Fort Myers Canterbury.
Freshman goalie Conor O’Neill (10 saves) made a save on a rolling shot with 90 seconds remaining.
“All the defense played well in holding that team to six goals,” said Riverview coach Pete deLisser, whose team will play 7 p.m. Tuesday against Barron Collier in a regional second round play-in game.
