MELBOURNE, Fla. – Director of Athletics Jamie Joss announced Brad MacArthur as the new head coach of the Florida Tech men’s lacrosse program. A USA Lacrosse certified head coach with nearly 30 years of head coaching and playing experience across Canada and in World competition, MacArthur will begin his new post on February 15.

“We are ecstatic to introduce Brad MacArthur as our next head men’s lacrosse coach,” said Joss. “Brad’s extensive coaching knowledge at the Canadian and World levels, along with outstanding collegiate and professional playing experience, stood out for the committee. Despite his vast coaching knowledge, Brad remains a consummate learner achieving the highest levels of coaching certifications in Canada.  We expect him to share his passion for education in mentoring our team in their academic, personal, and athletic pursuits guiding them to become contributing members of the Florida Tech community on and off-campus.

“Brad is a proven leader in lacrosse, who will make an immediate impact for our lacrosse scholar-athletes, especially with the evolution of the collegiate lacrosse harnessing his coaching techniques in applying the speed and strategy of the box lacrosse game to the field.  We believe he is a critical partner in leading the successful growth of our men’s lacrosse program and sharing his wisdom to his fellow coaches and their programs.”

MacArthur has been the driving force behind the success of the Israeli Indoor National Team during his eight years serving as the program’s General Manager and Head Coach since 2013. Israel won a gold medal at the European Box Championships in 2017 and earned a pair of top-five results at the World Indoor Championships. In the significant quadrennial championship events, he boasts a 14-7 record as Israel’s head coach. MacArthur received the 2016 Israel Lacrosse Man of the Year Award to grow the sport of lacrosse in the nation. He will serve as the head coach of Israel’s Sixes Team at the 2022 World Games in Alabama, Birmingham, and was the men’s field General Manager in 2018.

“I’d like to thank Dr. McCay, Jamie Joss, and the search committee for the opportunity to serve as the men’s lacrosse coach at Florida Tech,” said MacArthur. “The scholar-athlete experience that Florida Tech offers in terms of academics, athletics, and location is second to none. The institution, alumni, and previous coaches have all invested and sacrificed to build this program. There is work to do, and I’m excited to get to Melbourne and work with the young men.”

MacArthur’s coaching pedigree extends beyond the world stage, developing numerous Canadian lacrosse leagues.

Most recently, MacArthur was the General Manager and Head Coach for the Brooklin Lacrosse Club in Major Series Lacrosse, one of the top lacrosse leagues in the world. In 2018, his Brooklin Merchants staff was named the Senior Coaching Staff of the Year. MacArthur also held the role of General Manager and Co-Coach for the Whitby Steelhawks of the Arena Lacrosse League since 2017. The Steelhawks won the league championship in their inaugural season.

MacArthur served two stints at the helm of the Clarington Green Gaels of the Ontario Junior B League from 2001 to 2002 and 2011 to 2017. In 2002, he coached the Green Gaels to their third Founder’s Cup National Championship in five years. His second coaching stint saw the Gaels finish as Ontario Jr. B League finalists in 2013, 2016, and 2017 and Canadian finalists in 2016. He posted a career record of 150-52-1 as head coach of the Green Gaels, and the program has produced countless NCAA All-Americans and award winners at Division I and II levels.

Additionally, he served as head coach of the Barrie Blizzard in the Canadian Lacrosse League from 2014 to 2016. MacArthur was named CLL Coach of the Year in 2015 after leading the Blizzard to the league championship.

MacArthur has also had an accomplished career as a player, both in college and professional. He was a four-year member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s lacrosse program from 1995 to 1998. During his time, the Knights competed in four straight Deep South Conference championship games, including winning the conference title in 1995 and 1996. While serving as team captain in 1997 and 1998, MacArthur earned consecutive All-Deep South Conference First Team selections and was named the conference’s Player of the Year in 1997. He also received USILA All-America honors in 1997 and 1998, and Academic All-America honors in 1998.

MacArthur was a first-round draft pick, fifth overall, by the Rochester Knighthawks in the 1999 National Lacrosse League Draft. He played profession for seven years with Rochester, the Montreal Express, the Calgary Roughnecks, and the Toronto Rock. MacArthur’s teams were involved in three NLL championship games, ultimately winning the NLL Champions Cup with Calgary in 2004. He amassed regular-season totals of 92 games played and 65 points on 24 goals and 41 assists.

Additionally, MacArthur played for the Brooklin Redmen Lacrosse Club that won the prestigious Mann Cup in 2000, emblematic of Canadian lacrosse supremacy.

A 1998 graduate of St. Andrews, MacArthur earned a degree in Physical Education and Sport and a minor in communications.
