It was a great night for lacrosse at Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School as the Cougars took the field against 2022 Final 4 participant, Plant High School Panthers.  This game featured two of the best teams in SW Florida and it did not disappoint.  Most of the game was back and forth, with a total of 7 ties throughout the game. 

In the 4^th quarter, Plant seemed determined to pull away after goals from Rogan Kane and Turner Ashby (both outstanding on the night) made the score 13-9 with 6:15 left in the game.  Mooney began their comeback with a goal from Sophomore Carston Shepherd at the 4:14 mark, and it didn’t stop there.  The Cougars went on to score 3 unanswered goals in a span of 1:13, led by Junior Captain Giovanni Zanoni and 2 scores by Senior Captain Sean Laureano to tie the game up and send it to overtime. 

After a faceoff win by Plant, Junior Mason Sheffield made the defensive play of the night on a turnover and laser pass to Sophomore Jake Morales who started the fast break and made a perfect pass to Laureano for the game winner 2:10 into overtime. 

Cardinal Mooney was led by Sean Laureano with 5 goals and 2 assists, Sophomore Jamison McCusker with 3 goals and 3 assists, and Junior Captain Giovanni Zanoni with 2 goals and 2 assists. 

Cardinal Mooney will take on another 2022 Final Four contender, Winter Park, at Cardinal Mooney this Friday @ 7pm. Plant will take on Steinbrenner tonight.
