Hatters Win Fifth in a Row, Defeat Blue Devils

Hartford, CT – Stetson (7-3) defeated Central Connecticut State (1-5) 19-9 on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Devils would strike first at the 12:55 mark to start the quarter, however the Hatters would respond with four straight goals of their own. Jessica Duggan would get the scoring started for Stetson at the 11:18 mark. Georgia Goering would get her first of the contest and Jordyn Humphrey would get the next two goals to make it 4-1 Hatters. The action would go back in forth the rest of the quarter as the Blue Devils would respond with a goal and then Molly Kearney would score a man up goal for the Hatters, followed by another Blue Devil score. Sam King would finish out the quarter with a goal at the :32 mark to make it 6-3 in favor of Stetson at the end of one.

Humphrey would get the action started in the second as she scored her third giving her a hat-trick. Kaitlin Pani would follow it up with her first goal of the contest before CCSU would net their first of the second quarter. After a turnover by each side, Camden Frissora would score on a free position attempt. Katie Kornacki would get the draw control and the Blue Devils would commit another foul that the Hatters would take advantage of as Kaitlin Pani would score another man up goal at the 6:53 mark to make it 10-4 Stetson. CCSU would take a timeout to regroup and finally find the back of the net again for their second and final goal of the quarter. Stetson would respond with two more goals one by Frissora and Goering to make the lead 12-5 going into halftime.

The Blue Devils would score first to open the second half at the 12:41 mark. Less than a minute later Kearney would get her second of the afternoon to make it 13-6 Hatters. The teams would trade goals for the rest of the third as CCSU would get two more and Stetson would score two of their own with King netting one and Duggan scoring from a free position shot. Stetson would lead 15-8 heading into the final quarter.

Stetson’s defense would turn CCSU over three times in the final quarter as the Hatters would net four more goals, while holding the Blue Devils to just one. Jessica Duggan would get herself a hat-trick by scoring at the 12:42 mark from another free position attempt. Goering would not be outdone as she would become the third Hatter with a hat-trick in the contest scoring at the 12:04 mark. Aine Williams and Ashley Huff would be the final Hatters to get on the scoresheet as the Hatters would go on to win 19-9.

Stetson will return home for a few days of training before heading on the road again as they start ASUN Conference play against Lindenwood on April 6th at 4:00 p.m.
