Vanderlinde made career-high 13 saves in win over Campbell

MACON, Ga. – Mercer women’s lacrosse goalie Kate Vanderlinde was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week for the week of April 24-30 as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Vanderlinde has been named Big South Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after she won it the previous week after allowing just two goals against Radford.

In Mercer’s wins last week over Presbyterian and Campbell, Vanderlinde had a 7.0 goals against average, with 18 saves and a .563 save percentage.

In Mercer’s 20-4 win over Presbyterian, she played three quarters allowing just three goals with a .625 save percentage. In the regular season finale at Campbell, Vanderlinde came up with several key saves throughout the game en route to making a career-high 13 saves on the day and helped the Bears win the Big South regular season championship.

Vanderlinde finished the regular season leading the Big South with an 8.93 goals against average and finished second in the conference in save percentage at .456.

UP NEXT
Mercer earned the number one seed and will host the Big South Tournament this weekend. The Bears will face the No. 4 seed High Point Panthers in the semifinals on Friday at 4 p.m.
