HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – The Embry-Riddle men’s lacrosse team finished out its most successful road trip in program history on Sunday with an 18-10 victory over Alabama Huntsville at Charger Park. The Eagles (3-2) collected wins over two of the top three teams in the Peach Belt Conference while in Alabama, scoring a total of 36 goals in victories over Montevallo and UAH (2-2).

On Sunday, Head Coach Spencer Wims‘ team put together a complete performance, but it was a massive fourth quarter for the visitors that sealed ERAU’s first-ever win over the Chargers in program history.

Marcus Needham got the party started for the Eagles with the first goal of the game, and the Eagles never gave up the lead. Needham’s tally came two minutes into the contest, and Isaiah Hines then added the first of his four goals a few moments later for a 2-0 Eagle lead.

After the Chargers finally got on the board nearly eight minutes into the game, Coleman Jacobs quickly responded with his first goal of the afternoon just 60 seconds later.

Hines picked up his second score of the day in the waning seconds of the first quarter and the visitors took a 4-2 advantage into the second period.

Both teams managed three goals in the second 15 minutes, with the Eagles scoring the first three, including two in the first minute, one each from Pete Abbes and Andrew Ewalt. Ewalt’s came mere seconds after he won the face-off following Abbes’ score, putting the Blue and Gold up 6-2 60 seconds into the second quarter.

Abbes’ second goal in the quarter made it 7-2 before the Chargers were able to score three goals in the eight minutes before halftime, but ERAU still led 7-5 at the break.

Coming out of the half, the Eagles continued to be the aggressors, with Hines scoring the opening goal of the third quarter a few seconds after the initial face-off won by Ewalt.

The two teams traded goals in the third, but the Eagles would allow the Chargers to get no closer than two scores.

Embry-Riddle dominated the home team in the fourth quarter, again starting the period with a quick strike, this one from Matt Ryan for a 12-8 cushion.

Needham and then Lars Hoeg both scored a goal for the Eagles to give them their biggest lead of the day (14-8) with nine minutes to play. After a Charger score, Needham netted a man-up goal off a Hines assist, pushing the Blue and Gold advantage to six before Trent McCauley scored his first goal of the season 90 ticks later as the route was on.

The Chargers got just one more score before Christian Hofer and Jacobs registered goals in the final five minutes to account for the 18-10 result.Hines and Needham both scored four times for ERAU, with Needham’s four goals a career-best mark. Hines also added two assists, while Jacobs finished with three goals and one helper, and Abbes accounted for two goals and two assists.

Embry-Riddle out-shot UAH 52-38, with its 18 goals tying for the second-most in program history (Eagles also scored 18 on Friday at Montevallo). ERAU’s 47 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers were also top-10 single-game marks.

Ewalt went 16-for-30 at the faceoff spot, while Hudson Kirk caused three turnovers for the Blue and Gold.

A trio of Eagles spent time in goal, with Carter Groezinger picking up seven saves in the second half and Jacob Lotz recording five saves. Lucas Fraser finished the contest as the Eagles’ goalie.

The Eagles will have the opportunity to take down their third consecutive top-three PBC team on March 3 when they take on Lander in Savannah, Ga.
