2018 SSC Women’s Lacrosse Season Outlook; FSC Selected Preseason No. 1

  MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sunshine State Conference women’s lacrosse coaches pick Florida Southern College to win a fourth-consecutive conference title. The 2017 NCAA Division II national runner-up received 34 total votes and five first-place votes in the preseason coaches ranking.
 
Florida Tech finished second in the poll with 31 votes and one first-place vote. Rollins College lands in third after garnering 29 votes and the final first-place vote. The University of Tampa holds a three-vote edge over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for fourth place in the ranking, while Saint Leo University and Palm Beach Atlantic University round out the poll in sixth and seventh positions, respectively.
 
Winners of three consecutive SSC regular season championships and two straight SSC tournament titles, Florida Southern (21-3, 4-0) earned a hosting bid and first-round bye in the NCAA regional tournament. Florida Tech (14-4, 3-1) advanced to play FSC in the second round following a 17-10 win over East Stroudsburg University. The Moccasins captured the regional and advanced to the final four after defeating the Panthers 16-6. Florida Southern then defeated Lindenwood University 13-12 and earn a second straight berth to the national championship game. The Moccasins’ 19-game win streak and repeat title hopes came to an end following a 6-4 loss to Adelphi University.
 
SSC women’s lacrosse begins on February 9th with Florida Tech hosting Molloy College and league play gets underway the next day as Rollins to Tampa. The 2018 SSC Championship will take place on April 27th and April 29th and will be hosted by the top seed. The NCAA Division II postseason for women’s lacrosse starts on Saturday, May 12th at non-predetermined sites and concludes Sunday, May 20th at Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex on the campus of the University of Tampa.
