#24 Women’s Lacrosse Remains Undefeated as Saint Leo Takes Down Belmont Abbey 19-9

  via Saint Leo press release   BOX SCORE SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 24 Saint Leo Lions women’s lacrosse team defeated Belmont Abbey 19-9 on Tuesday at University Turf Stadium to extend their perfect season start to 9-0 overall. The Lions are one of seven teams remaining undefeated among the Division II nationally ranked programs. Saint Leo held a 10-6 advantage at halftime. The Lions offense opened the second stanza hot in the to extend the lead for a running clock and ultimately their ninth-straight win. Leslie Ferguson led the charge with eight points while earning 11 possessions for the Lions to become the program’s all-time leading scorer within three seasons. Ferguson scored a double hat-trick and a pair of assists, picked up seven ground balls and caused four turnovers in her big night. The senior attacker converted all three of her free position shots. “I am very happy with the offensive effort,” said head coach Caitlin Hansen. “We struggled defensively but we made great plays on the re-defend. Leslie and Kayla were their usual quick and active re-defenders. Leslie was awesome with a perfect shooting percentage and is now our all-time leading scorer. Delaney also had a great day at draw control,” concluded Hansen. Stat Highlights
  • Ferguson became the program’s leading scorer with a total of 115 career goals after an eight-point performance (6g, 2a). The senior attacker had a perfect night earning a perfect shooting percentage going 6-for-6. She added seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
  • Lexie Walstad netted a pair of goals and assists for four points.
  • Delaney Chrisco dominated in the middle snagging six draw controls.
  • Erin Davis earned the win in the net with nine saves.

  • Saint Leo is 1-of-7 Division II teams to remain undefeated among the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top-20 list: No. 1 Le Moyne, No. 2 Adelphi, No. 5 Lindenwood, No. 6 Rollins, No. 7 Regis (Colo.) and No. 20 Bentley.
  • Two Lions have scored in every game this season; Janee DeLuca and Leslie Ferguson.
  • Under the direction of Hansen, the Lions 9-0 season start continues to break the program’s best season start.
