Heading into Friday night’s Region 3 boys lacrosse quarterfinal game against undefeated Gulf Coast High School, Barron Collier coach John Sivillo had the utmost confidence in his team and his game plan.
After all, the Cougars were one of just two teams to keep the score reasonably close with the Sharks during the regular season. Barron Collier had a 5-3 halftime lead before falling 12-6 on March 22.
This time, the Cougars found themselves down 5-3 at the half. They started the third quarter with a renewed sense of urgency, finally taking their first lead of the contest when Yates Miller found the back of the net with 2:21 remaining in the third to put the Cougars up 8-7.
Barron Collier never trailed again, closing out the Sharks 12-9 and advancing to Tuesday’s regional semifinal at Sarasota-Cardinal Mooney.
