The Crusaders host the District 24 playoffs this week, starting with a game against Seminole Ridge tonight. When the teams last met on Feb. 27, Cardinal Newman won 15-2, but no one outside the Crusaders locker room had any idea what was in store for the team.
Now the Crusaders are 16-0, ranked eighth in the state and the clear-cut favorites in District 24. It was their first undefeated season — a feat made more impressive against the likes of Benjamin, Martin County and Vero Beach.
Cardinal Newman defeated all three, starting with back-to-back victories over Martin County and rival Benjamin at the beginning of March. The win against Martin County was the first in school history.
