Congratulations to Colby on his college choice and good luck in the future!   Name Colby Kudla High School Berkeley Preparatory School Graduation Year 2020 College Choice University of Vermont Club Affiliations Sweetlax     Why did you choose this college? Initially I didn’t know much about the University of Vermont. After being contacted by Coach Feifs and invited for a visit, I began researching the school thoroughly on my own. While I had some different options of schools, all with their own strengths, I ultimately chose UVM because it had a great balance of all the things that were important to me. My priority has been academics. UVM has a great academic reputation as a “public ivy” and is well known throughout the northeast. I also spoke with alumni, and current students about their overall experience and heard nothing but great things from them. As for lacrosse, they have a very competitive Division 1 team that finished in the Top 25 and have been to the last two conference championships. The incredible coaching staff was another important factor as well as the other players that I met on the visit. Finally, I found Burlington and the overall vibe at UVM to be amazing and fell in love with Vermont almost immediately. While I have been patient in my search and process, I finally got that gut feeling as I realized that UVM offered that perfect balance that I was looking for in my college experience. What are your first memories of the sport? I still remember my very first day playing lacrosse. I was in 3rd grade, came home from school one day and my dad told me he signed me up to play lacrosse. He also told me that the first practice was that night. I showed up to practice later that night with no idea what lacrosse even was. The very first thing that I was taught was how to cradle. After that first night, I would work on my cradling every day, anxious for my next practice. I soon discovered that the fast pace, energy, and contact of the sport was something that I loved. What part of the process was most surprising to you about the recruiting process and what would you like to pass on to those who are going to face it in the future? The most surprising thing about my recruiting process was my result – Commitment to the University of Vermont. As I said before I didn’t know much about the school until I was contacted by the coach, which then piqued my interest. It was never on my radar, but we remained patient and open minded during the process. I’m so glad that we did, as it ended up being the perfect fit. Some advice I would like to pass on based on my experience is to be patient, consider all possible schools, and to research every option because that perfect fit is out there, you just might not know it until you see it. Who would you like to thank for helping you get here? First, I would like to thank the Sweetlax program. They took great care of me and put me in the best possible scenarios to be recruited. They also kept in close contact with me, and with the college coaches interested in me. I would also like to thank my coaches and teammates as they were a key part of my journey and success. I’d like to thank my parents as well for always supporting me through the process and letting me take the lead throughout my process. Without my parents’ support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Lastly, I want to thank God for guiding me through this process and showing me the best choice.
