Big Lacrosse News From Hillsborough County!

  via Tampa Lax Report
Author’s Note:  Our friends at Tampa Lax Report have posted an article on some BIG changes in Hillsborough County!  Long time readers know that I’ve been wishing for Hillsborough County to loosen the reins on the way they run the programs through HALAX and it looks like they finally have! For those who are new to this HALAX is the Hillsborough County Lacrosse Alliance and they basically ran lacrosse across all the public schools in the County.  HALAX would raise money for all the public schools in the County even if they had not offered the sport before.  The private schools did not join the Alliance.  The schools and their teams would charge the players a fee for the season and that money would then help to subsidized those schools that could not pay.  Outside events would be held via fundraisers to help keep the cost down.   Hillsborough County would then also regulate the number of games the public schools played and most importantly would also not allow road games outside the HALAX County area, unless it was as part of a multi-game jamboree.   Now the oversight has been transferred to the School Boards of Hillsborough County and HALAX will transfer to an advisory role and their future will be with that for the time being.  The responsibility for financing programs transitions to the high schools and they must be able to finance themselves.  They are monies left over that can be used for this season. The scheduling has also changed so that teams can now expand their schedules and as they pay for their own road trips they can travel outside the county! Thank you!
