via FSC press release   LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College men’s lacrosse head coach Marty Ward has announced the addition of two new assistant coaches to his staff. Longtime lacrosse coaches Mark Frey and Bill Shatz were named as assistant coaches for the Moccasins on Wednesday. The duo has more than 50 years of combined experience in lacrosse as former college players and coaches at the high school, college and club levels. Frey most recently coached at Cleveland State, while Shatz most recently served as Director of Lacrosse at IMG Academy. “We are thrilled to add Coach Frey and Coach Shatz to our program this spring,” said Ward. “Both coaches bring a tremendous amount of knowledge on player development and game day experience to the sidelines. We are very excited to get to work!” Prior to his stint at Cleveland State, Frey was the head coach at Division II Ferrum College in Virginia, where he helped lead the Panthers to a pair of conference titles. The first head coach in Ferrum men’s lacrosse history, Frey earned conference Coach of the Year honors in 2009 and 2016 and coached five MCLA all-Americans and 13 all-SEILC selections. Shatz started the lacrosse program at IMG Academy and helped lead the program to a national ranking in just their second season. A consistent top-10 team in the national rankings, IMG Academy saw 60.0 percent of its players earn Division I scholarships and compiled a winning percentage of 90.0 percent under Shatz’s leadership. Known as an innovator in the lacrosse community, Shatz is responsible for the “DoubleCrosse” system of play that has gained national acclaim. The Moccasins begin the regular season on the road at Belmont Abbey on Feb. 23 and play their first home game at the brand-new Moccasin field on March 4 against Emmanuel.
