via FSC press release   DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Florida Southern College men’s lacrosse closed out its season on a high note with a 15-3 victory at Embry-Riddle on Saturday evening. The Moccasins (8-7, 3-4 SSC) scored the eventual game-winner with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter to defeat the Eagles (1-12, 0-7). Freshman goalie Matt Stocks made six saves on nine shots faced. Lucas Claude lead the game with three goals. Justin Dunleavy, Dalton Simpson, and Carson Wallace all recorded a pair of goals, while a quartet of Moccasins found the back of the net. HOW IT HAPPENED • Florida Southern opened the scoring at 9:50 when Cody Gray took a feed from Joe Appio and put it in the back of the net. Just 20 seconds later, the Mocs leading scorer Claude scored, his first of three goals, on a pass from Wallace to give Florida Southern a quick 2-0 lead. At 5:07 Claude again found the back of the net, this time on a feed from Carson Plant. With 1:54 on the clock in the first, Liam Winwood scored the eventual game-winning goal to give the Mocs a 4-0 advantage. On a man-up opportunity, Colin Bayer recorded his 18th goal on the season giving the Mocs a 5-0 lead to close out the first quarter. • The second quarter saw the host Eagles find the scoreboard for the first time at 13:07. The Mocs would answer with a 4-0 run. Simpson began the four-goal run on a feed from Claude at 11:29. Two minutes and ten seconds later Wallace recorded his first of two goals on the evening. Following four failed shots from the Mocs, Dunleavy put Florida Southern up 8-1. Just as the 4-0 run began, it ended with a Simpson goal from Cam Delisle with 1:57 remaining in the first half. • The Mocs would come out of the 10-minute break with a goal from Kevin Dyer as the Mocs would hit the 10 goal mark for the 11th time this season. Embry-Riddle would answer the Mocs second half opening goal with its second goal of the evening at 7:33. Florida Southern put together another 4-0 run beginning with Claude’s team-leading 42nd goal of the season at 6:42 in the third. Shortly after that, just 29 seconds later, Wallace put his third goal of the game in the back of the net. With 55 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The Mocs closed out the third with as Byrce Keaton scored his second goal of the year with 29 seconds remaining as Florida Southern took a 14-2 lead into the final frame. • The first 11 minutes of the final frame was quiet as neither team would find the back of the net until 2:54 when ERAU scored on a man-up opportunity. Florida Southern’s Andrew Pineda would score his first goal of the season with 1:07 left in the game to secure a 15-3 win. The Mocs fired off a game low four fourth-quarter shots. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern now leads the all-time series against Embry-Riddle 1-0. Saturday’s meeting was the first between the two programs as ERAU is in its first season of play. • Florida Southern finished the season with three SSC victories. The 8-7 overall record is the Mocs first above .500 record since 2014 (11-4).  • The Moccasins outshot the Eagles, 38-26, and won 13-of-19 faceoffs. Florida Southern was a perfect 22-22 on clear attempts and held a slight advantage over ERAU as they picked up 38 groundballs to the Eagles 36. • Both teams team converted a man-up opportunity. The Mocs had thee chances while Florida Tech had six. • Claude’s 42 goals put him third in the SSC, and Dyer finished seventh with 30 goals. • As a team, the Mocs led the SSC with 152 caused turnovers, as well as 10.13 caused turnovers per game. They also finished third with a .294 shooting percentage.
