FSC Men: Mocs Dominate Lions in Home Opener 25-2

LAKELAND, FL – Lucas Claude and Kevin Dyer combined for 11 goals as Florida Southern College men’s lacrosse dominated Emmanuel, 25-2, in its first-ever game at the brand-new Moccasin on Sunday. The Moccasins (2-1) put the pressure on early and never trailed at any point as they dominated the Lions (0-6) en route to the largest margin of victory in school history.
The Mocs struck for nine goals in the first and second quarters while holding Emmanuel scoreless for nearly 35 total minutes. Dyer got the Moccasins on the board twice in the first minute and a half and recorded a hat trick less than five minutes into the game. Six different players scored multiple goals, while three different goalkeepers (Mike Greco, Matt Stocks, and Drew Van de Motter) saw playing time.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Florida Southern seized control early and never let its foot off the gas. Within five minutes, the Moccasins took a commanding 5-0 lead and found themselves up 9-0 after 15 minutes of action. Dyer scored six seconds into the first quarter for the first men’s lacrosse goal at Moccasin field, while Claude struck for two goals in the first.
• The Moccasins also scored five times in the opening five minutes of the second quarter to go up 18-0 at halftime, and would hold the Lions scoreless until Lance Olson scored with 11:12 to go in the third to make it 19-1. Emmanuel scored its only other goal with 11:21 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Mocs closed the game with three unanswered goals to make the final 25-2.
• Dyer scored six goals and tallied three assists, while Claude scored five goals and recorded two assists. Nate Elgin, Matthew Frey, Nick Gutmann, Kyle Silverstein, and Zach Wilsoneach scored twice. Silverstein also had three assists, while Kevin Horwitz had two. Greco made six saves in one half in goal, while Stocks and Van de Motter each played one quarter. Van de Motter made six stops.
• Florida Southern outshot the Lions 60-20, picked up 50 ground balls to Emmanuel’s 22, and completed 14-of-16 clear attempts. The Moccasins also dominated the faceoff circle, winning 26-of-31 faceoff attempts.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
• Florida Southern improved to 1-0 all-time against the Lions, as Saturday’s meeting was the first-ever between the schools. The victory was FSC’s first win in a regular-season home opener since 2012.
• The 23-goal margin of victory is the second-best in school history, while the 25 goals are also the second-most ever. The 60 total shots are tied for the fourth-most in a game in program history, while the 26 faceoff wins are tied for the second most in school history.
